Wanda vs. Daisy Miller

Daisy Miller is a costume drama about a girl who just wants to have fun. The stuffy crowd she interacts with frowns upon her behavior. I watched it it mostly because I've been meaning to catch up on Cybill Shepherd's early filmography. While the movie is breezy and passably entertaining, I'm not sure there was much to it. Wanda is about a woman who apparently isn't the coldest beer in the fridge. She just kind of wanders through life until she meets a gruff (though basically kind) robber who tries to straighten her up. It's a Bonnie and Clyde tale without any glamor or much action. Maybe it's lack of glamor and attention to the little human details is what makes it appealing. I guess these are both movies about women who don't fit in, but for different reasons. Wanda has more substance, I figure. It's not about characters who are exactly likable, but it captures them in a natural way that's interesting.
