Annie vs. Chicago

I'll take "Cell-block Tango," "Mr. Cellophane," "All hat Jazz," etc. over "It's a Hard-Knock Life" any day!

Ahem, "All THAT Jazz," even! It's so much better that it caused a typo!

Ann Reinking could out-dance anyone in Chicago, and the Carol Burnett/Albert Finney duet is a trip, but overall the John Huston Annie is a poor adaptation of the Broadway musical, lacking the sweep one expects from this kind of film. Chicago plays it hot and fast, and the stars make up for whatever they lack in the way of training and experience with professionalism, talent, and earnestness. In particular, Catherine Zeta-Jones sizzles. Easy choice.

Annie is honestly one of the worst musicals ever made. I don't love Chicago, but it's easily the better film.
