This is pretty much as tough a matchup as they come for me. I can still remember pretty clearly the first time I saw each film and the immediate adoration I felt for them. I have to give it to Donnie Darko by a fraction because it hit me so hard the first time I saw it, and continues to do so relentlessly with every rewatch. But I still think Eternal Sunshine is just as beautiful and (in one way or another) just as devastating.

Donnie Darko. They are both amazing movies, but Donnie Darko just makes you think way more. It's a movie not only to experience ,but also to solve.

Donnie Darko is better. It has a better twist and it has a great teenage high school story while you try and figure out the narrative.
Personally I found Donnie Darko to be more entertaining for me but it is pretty close and as my flick chart stands right now ESOTSM may or may not be ranked higher. Darko jus t gives me this inexplicable feeling when watching or thinking about it which which I like.
