It's sometimes hard to tell which last western is the lastest last western.

@ awall : Wild Bunch is so revisionist, you gotta call Liberty Valance the last real Western. That said, it's difficult to say which of these two is the best. I'm going Valence because the Duke / Jimmy Stewart combo is just too good.

I'm not even entirely sure The Wild Bunch is the "last" western, because The Duke definitely had several movies come out in the '70s, including Big Jake and The Shootist. The Shootist is probably the last traditional western, actually. But Peckinpah vs. John Ford is a tough contest. Ford would win in most of these contests, but here I'm going to go with The Wild Bunch.
