42nd Street vs. New York, New York

This is a hard choice, but I have to give it to Scorsese's darker and more complex vision of the musical. Don't get me wrong though, 42nd Street still remains a terrific movie, but it's a little too simple in the long run. Besides, Robert DeNiro and Liza Minnelli are both terrific in New York, New York, and with the exception of Sinatra's signature version of the song, nothing else beats Minnelli's version of "Theme from New York, New York." When you look at everything between the two movies, New York, New York just comes out ahead on almost ever level.
