Night of the Living Dead vs. Land of the Dead

No contest here. Early Romero bests later Romero any old day of the week!

Land of t he Dead is awful.

Land of the Dead is George Harrison's way past his prime. Tbh, it's still some dumb fun. Is it flawed? Yes. Is it fucked up? Hell, yeah. Is it bad? Gosh, it's fun. Who cares if it's bloody bad? It's just like, a highly predictable generic blockbuster, but it's still nice to look at and somehow interesting. However, it's no masterpiece. Hell, I think I won’t ever watch a zombie movie again, in my life. Night was cheap, simples and pretty great. I doubt there was going to be the generic blockbuster had the small indie movie been bad. It does a lot with so little, and it's the obvious winner here. Had Romero died before making Land of the Dead, the horror genre would be the same (I'm glad he didn't, though). Can't say the same about Night (and Dawn).

I love the progression across these films and the development the dead made between the two. But without the former, which is a fucking classic in my Top 20, you wouldn't have the latter. Night obviously wins.
