Interesting one. I quite disliked both of these movies because they try so hard to make us cry with their music. I guess Hereafter is far more insistent.

Gran Torino was good and Hearafter was AWFUL.

Hereafter is probably the better directed film but fails due to it's lackluster and confounding screenplay. Eastwood doesn't seem to put as much effort into Gran Torino but the writing is so strong he doesn't need to. The only thing that separates Gran Torino from Eastwood's best films are are the sub par performances. Hereafter is not one of Eastwood's best films so it easily wins here.
