Another Capra/Hitchcock matchup, but this time neither are favorites. Interestingly, Meet John Doe is pretty dark for Capra (I find the comedy pretty sparse), whereas Mr. & Mrs. Smith is very light for Hitch (a screwball comedy, not a thriller!). Meet John Doe has the better reputation and it's certainly the more adventurous film, but I found it wearying and the ending is such a cop-out. Mr. & Mrs. Smith is light and forgettable, but it seems to me the less disappointing of the two.
