both brilliant, but phantom thread isn't quite as good as a masterpiece like there will be blood

Both of these feature my favorite director, actor and composer completely on top of their game. Phantom Thread absolutely floored me. Both are strong masterpieces but, seeing that There Will Be Blood is my #1 favorite of all time, it must take the cake. I find it to be the ultimate 21st century masterwork. However, Phantom Thread is immediately a strong personal favorite and I only see it growing on me overtime.

There Will Be Blood was infinitely more engaging. I felt something about almost every character, whereas I had an equal portion of apathy for each of Phantom Thread’s.
