"Empire" is the reason I'm a "Star Wars" fan. But having just re-watched "Bridge" two nights ago, and being reminded how great it is, I've got to go with David Lean's 1957 classic. Alec Guinness didn't win an Oscar for this...he earned it.

Hmm....I think that The Bridge on the River Kwai was slightly better.
