Both movies are visual marvels and not much else. Since Avatar is more visually impressive, I guess it wins.

I would say Blade Runner. I would also argue that Blade Runner looks more impressive than Avatar, as parts of Avatar are just a straight up cartoon. Blade Runner on the other hand has a whole city that actually looks livable. Also I feel that Blade Runner covers themes that are less black and white.

Blade Runner looks gritty and dark while Avatar is beautiful but its story is unoriginal and at times stupid while Blade Runner has great acting and a story that is genius only the smartest sci-fi film fan or intelligent person can fully grasp is that the difference between a casual fan or comedic/romantic person and the person who no every detail of a movie(camera angles acting techniques, overall relative story and Direction) in those terms this is a massacre Blade runner wins easy but Avatar has many of those qualites as well its a good film with great effects!
