Grrr, two of my absolute favorite films from my childhood. Winnie the Pooh is pure childish joy, innocent from beginning to end, and that is its best quality. However, Fox and the Hound deals with slightly more complex issues, such as separation from one's environment, estranged friendships, friendly/natural rivalries, and the all-important sacrifices we make in life. Fox and the Hound is an under-appreciated gem from Disney that is not quite double-feature material for Winnie-the-Pooh, but I feel its a more mature extension on some Pooh qualities. If I had to choose one, however heartbreaking the choice would be, the Fox and the Hound would be my pick, one of my required views from the Disney Animated collection.
