Red Dawn vs. Red Eye

Okay. Back when I watched Red Dawn on 80s cable TV as a kid, the United States was involved in the Cold War with the Soviet Union. Red Dawn is a paranoid artifact from that time in history when many people probably believed that the Soviet invasion of America scenario depicted in the movie could've actually occured. I would say that the current state of world affairs is worse than what was going on back then, and that the Russians are somewhat lower on the list of US concerns. So yeah, Red Dawn is a bit dated and silly now. Red Eye deals with the more timeless fear of being forced by some guy on a plane to be an accomplice in a political assassination. I don't really know if that is a common contemporary fear, actually, but Red Eye is a little less lame and passé.

Red Eye was always better than Red Dawn the propaganda.
