The Abyss is more grandiose, but the two movies work on a similar level until their storylines deviate...

The claustrophobia I felt watching both these films was off the charts. Loved both, but I will choose The Descent as it's shorter and I'm more likely to see it multiple times.

I don't know which one's more disappointing. They exhibit great atmospheres, but really fail in showcasing worthwhile characters.
