Now here's an interesting parallel! Battle of the sexes on a journey together through the hinterland. I'm going for The 39 Steps, but could sway the other way on a different day.

The best aspect of each of these films is the amazing chemistry that exists between their two leads. Unfortunately, the two leads in The 39 Steps, Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll, only spend part of the movie together. It Happened One Night, on the other hand, had the benefit of Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert's chemistry for nearly the duration of the entire film. For that reason, It Happened One Night is an easy winner here...
