His voice was soft, his manner mild. He seldom laughed but he often smiled. He'd seen how civilized men behaved. He never forgot and he never forgave.

This one isn't close. Sweeney Todd has real emotion, a fantastic narrative (with that rarest of commodities a truly brilliant ending), suspense of the hide-behind-your-hands variety and bucket loads of gore. Chicago has skimpy outfits and good choreography. No contest.
