Well, here's a titanic battle from my formative movie watching years. Adventures in Babysitting still remains the greatest Elisabeth Shue movie as far as I know. The Princess Bride is one of the few movies that I memorized from beginning to end. If it wasn't for the annoying scenes with Peter Falk and Fred Savage, The Princess Bride would be as good as good can be. Adventures in Babysitting isn't as funny or quotable as The Princess Bride, but at least it doesn't have some kid whining about the mushy parts. I guess I can just designate The Princess Bride as one of those "flawed masterpieces" and be done with it. Still, Shue's opening dance number and Blues performance should be regarded as mini-masterpieces. (NOTE: There is some nostalgia factoring in here, but since both movies came out in the same year neither one has an advantage in that regard.)

I actually liked the scenes with Fred Savage and Peter Falk in The Princess Bride. I thought those scenes provided some levity to the story being told. At any rate, The Princess Bride definitely the better film. Elisabeth Shue's cute dancing can only carry Adventures in Babysitting so far.
