20,000 Leagues Under the Sea vs. The Black Hole

Live action Disney films with decent casts and annoying non-human sidekicks. Generally I dislike Disney live action films. They have an unpleasant cloying saccharine aftertaste. I feel as if they're trying to hook me on wholesome values to which I do not subscribe! These are two mediocre efforts. The Black Hole a post-Star Wars attempt to cash in of Sci-Fi, the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, a more traditional adventure yarn that falls flat. One has a levitating robot with cute big eyes, the other a trained sealion. They're roughly the same pattern cut from the same cloth. The Black Hole edges it, because it has the big robot vs. Anthony Perkins moment - a strangely scary, violent event that stands out in it's benign surroundings.

I prefer the sea adventure and the memorable Peter Lorre.

Essentially The Black Hole is a remake of 20,000 Leagues only set in space. I really didn't care for either movie but I guess I like Black Hole a little bit more.
