2012 vs. Marie Antoinette

I guess the End of the World stuff was tense to watch in 2012, but I'm tired of movies where a cast of characters run from natural disasters. They give us some people and we're supposed to identify with them for some reason. Why, because we universally share the fear of getting swallowed up by an earthquake? I guess I didn't identify much with Marie Antoinette, either, but I'm a sucker for costume dramas. Following one person's plight is easier to process than human extinction.
