WHY AM I THE FIRST ONE TO COMMENT ON THIS? THIS IS THE MOST EPIC HORROR MATCH UP EVER. Actually they're pretty much the only two horror movies that I actually appreciate. Whatever. Enough with this. The Shining easily wins. "WHEN DO YOU THINK MAYBE HE SHOULD BE TAKEN TO A DOCTOR?"

my two favourite horror films. Psycho used to be my favourite horror film, but then I saw The Shining and that became my favourite. I've only seen both of these movies once and I'm starting to forget The Shining but I Psycho is still really fresh in my mind. So I suppose Psycho is more memorable, but for now I'm going to go with The Shining. We'll see if my mind changes after repeat viewings.

Geez...what's more iconic -- the silhouette of Norman Bates from the shower sequence, or Jack's "Here's Johnny!" creepy-face sticking out of the axe-beaten door? Mirrors and reflections have a constant presence in these two highly influential movies, probably to create a group of characters with no fixed or true identity. Kubrick was more prolific in the presentation of this concept, imo. THE SHINING is my favorite horror flick, and it's a lesson in precise filmmaking. PSYCHO ain't that scary.

Both have many iconic scenes but, taken as a whole, Psycho is the superior film.
The Shining. The Overlook is like a terrifying psychological maze; The Bates Motel is not.
Shining holds up better.
I dunno, but I just wanna say that part where Norman rushes that detective guy near the stairs is more strangely startling than any murder scene made since, pretty much.
Both are pretty even, but personally, it goes to The Shining.
The Shining wins....because it's actually a bit scary...

Psycho is a better movie.

The Shining. More memorable, more terrifying, more entertaining.

I really can't choose, but maybe the Shining for Nicholson's amazing performance and the extra suspense! As a director, I love Hitchcock much more, but perhaps the Shining is better

Probably Psycho. Both are amazing.
