We got two movies based on a true story about guys escaping from confinement on foreign soil. Midnight Express takes place in a Turkish prison, while Rescue Dawn is set in a Vietnamese POW camp. The protagonist in Rescue Dawn is easier to root for, because he was captured in the line of duty. The guy in Midnight Express was just trying to smuggle pot. While I thought the ending of Rescue Dawn was syrupy, the rest was OK aside from the annoying Jeremy Davies character. Midnight Express is mostly just dreary and dull. I don't really know why I was supposed to care about the character, anyway.
