I've been waiting for this one for a while. Everyone seems to thing the remake is awesome because it has chainsaws and mountains of coke but I was surprised at how much I liked the original, Muni was great.

Both films are great and it's hard for me to say which one is better. The 1932 version is better paced and much more concise. That version also contains some nice shots and editing tricks, and some of the best action scenes I've ever seen in a 1930's film. However, the 1983 version has a great 1980's atmosphere (which I can't resist) and I loved the over-the-topness of it. In terms of acting, Al Pacino takes the cake for me, mainly because many of his quotes are very memorable. So this is one of the rare occasions in which I prefer the remake over the original.

Pacino is amazing in this...one of the best movies I've ever seen to this date. You have to have this in your library.
