The Dark Knight vs. Alien

Here are my issues with TDK - 1) Stupid Bat-vision; 2) Stupid Bat-voice; 3) Total waste of the biggest improvement over the first film, replacing Katie with Maggie and giving her nothing to do. Yeah, Ledger was great, but not as great as Alien!

Stupid Bat-voice was a minor complaint for Dark Knight but I have no complaints for Alien. I love them both but...click.

Bale's voice is the ONLY complaint I have about TDK. It makes a certain logical sense; he's disguising his voice. But it is too much. However, I didn't notice it as much the second time around, and by the third viewing, it didn't bother me. As for Maggie Gyllenhaal, yes, I do feel that she did not improve the movie any more by replacing Katie Holmes. (I actually thought Holmes was perfectly adequate in Batman Begins.) Anyway, Aliens is more of a competitor for TDK than Alien is. I absolutely LOVE Alien, but I love action movies more than horror.

People seem to complain a lot about Bale's voice and it never bothered. I never thought about it and even after people said it I haven't seen it or felt annoyed by it.

You do not mess with the greatest horror sci-fi ever made. Not even with the greatest comic book movie ever. Period.

Not even the bat nor the clown can compare to the face-hugger.

@nate_like_movie: It really only struck me that he was growling even MORE in TDK than he was in Batman Begins. At times, during my first viewing, he was a little hard to understand...

I thought Dark Knight was a good sequel to Batman and Heath Ledger did a great job as the Joker. But Alien is a classic movie that is spoofed and personified in almost all movies to date. Sigourney Weaver is great and the movie keeps you on our toes waiting for the alien to eat the person's face off!

Maggie Gyllenhaal was a step and a leap down from Katie Holmes (not a fan of Holmes either but meh). That scene in Wayne Mansion when The Joker busts in...WTF is up with calling MG beautiful and than validating it with a very emphasised "...and you ARE beautiful..."? Hee hee hah, I just couldn't take The Joker seriously there! It's still a better movie than Alien but, make no mistake, Aliens shits acid all over TDK.

TDK was great; an action-packed film that never dumbed itself down, and brought up some great moral dilemmas via the insanity of the Joker. But none of it comes close to being as effective as the terror that is Alien, one of the scariest films ever made. The Giger design of the alien alone gives me nightmares.

Dark Knight on this one.

Alien is one of the scariest films I've seen. Although I prefer Aliens over it, it's still great. The Dark Knight takes it. I'm sure it'll be dethroned once Rises is released but only time will tell.

Not much can beat the original Alien. Not even Batman or the Joker....

Alien was fantastic on first viewing. But the film has very little rewatchability in my eyes.Once you know what's about to happen, the suspense just dies down. The pacing was too slow for my liking. The acting wasn't great and I didn't find it all that scary either.Thrilling but not scary. The Dark Knight on the other hand is an intelligent thriller with fabulous performances by Eckhart and Ledger. Not to mention how I can never get tired of this movie.Pretty easy for me this-The Dark Knight.

Alien is the better film. I am definitely sorry TDK and Nolan, but the brilliance of Alien is rarely matched.

Alien gets better with each viewing for me and has been slowly climbing my chart. The Dark Knight on the other hand blew me away the first time and every time since. (I've seen it 20+ times)

Alien just gets better and better for me. I hated off liking it, then moderately disliking it, to appreciating it, to enjoying bits and pieces, to loving the second half, to liking the entire movie, to loving the entire movie and finally... To adore the entire film and putting it into my top 3 is just the right thing to do.

The Dark Knight is easily the big winner here.

#1 superhero movie vs. #2 sci-fi film. I'm just a sucker for quality sci-fi. Alien wins. Very tough matchup though.

despite dark knight being overrated to much - it still wins

That hurts. Both are films which I love with all my heart but just miss out on a top 20 spot. Both equally influencial in their respective genres, and despite being younger by nearly 30 years, I have no doubt that The Dark Knight will still be regarded as one of, if not the best comic-book films of all time in 30 years time, just as Alien is considered a landmark Sci-Fi horror today. That said, The Dark Knight has more replay and entertainment value, whereas I need to be in a certain mood(s) to watch Alien. And for that reason, Batman takes the point.

Alien is better, TDK is not good.

Alien is pretty good but The Dark Knight wins without hesitation.

Well Hello beautiful!

I prefer Alien

Yep, i read the Comic Book, and the winner is Aline.

Alien*

You all are being so serious! Put a smile on your face and just enjoy the fun that they both bring. Aliens beats Dark Knight but Dark Knight beats Alien.

A L I E N

I might be a bit biased, but for me it's fairly simple - The Dark Knight.

Alien is good but TDK takes it.

The dark knight by far.

Dark Knight is a great film and very well made but alien is a masterclass in both film-making and as a science fiction horror it became a benchmark.

Both are in my top 50. You can't go wrong with either but, I mean, it's Alien here!

If you say The Dark Knight wins, the facehugger will sneak into your bedroom at night and by the time you realise something was unusual, it would be already too late. When you wake up you don't understand and you can't really remember what happened because the facehugger attack affected your neurons in a certain way, you cannot think straight but you know and you can feel that something horrible is going to happen...

I prefer The Dark Knight over both Alien and Aliens, but I've never been that big of a fan of horror movies. Still, both Alien and Aliens have an objectively high level of craft. Wouldn't at all be surprised if someone preferred Alien more.

Alien is one of the best movies ever made, but The Dark Knight is straight up my favorite movie of all time
