Birdman is good but has a very stuck up, pretentious, try-hard feel to it. While watching it, I feel like I'm watching characters that were only created to monologue and ramble about how Alejandro Inarritu feels about the world. It doesn't feel so much like watching a character piece, as it does an intellectual vanity piece in places. What Ever Happened to Baby Jane may not have been as artistically ambitious, but its felt writing felt much more organic and real to me and in turn, packed more of a punch.
