This is a hard choice; both are essential to all cinephiles. Aesthetically perfect, art plus entretainment, genre definers. But I can say Metropolis is my favorite, even it's painful not to choose Nosferatu.

Nosferatu mhmmmmm...historically important movie...great gothic, uhhhh, set design mmmmmmhnnnn...yadda yadda yadda-FUCKING BORING! Metropolis wins for being less so. It holds up better as entertainment today.
