One of those rare cases where I actually prefer the remake. The Bale/Crowe film features better writing, better acting, and better action sequences. The original has a few really nice shots but otherwise doesn't offer much in the way of complexity or tension.

I hate myself for it but give me the remake a little over the original .

Both are solid westerns, but I really think that the only thing that old one has on the new one is the epic theme song.
