Home Alone vs. Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas

It's funny, because I often forget Home Alone was a Christmas movie at all, so really this match-up makes more sense than I thought. Even though Home Alone is now old enough to have a college degree, there's something so simple and likable about it. Even though the movie is the height of slapstick, it almost never seems forced. As I've gotten older, I've even come to appreciate the throw-away nods to Catherine O'Hara's history with John Candy on SCTV by placing him in a traveling polka band a la The Last Polka. The Big Screen version of The Grinch suffered in my eyes for coming too late. It was well executed and looked about as close to the source material as you could get for the year 2000, it was fun, it was a feelgood and it was harmless. While I enjoy The Grinch as a faithful retelling of a timeless classic, I just think Home Alone just had more to offer and continues to be enjoyable almost a quarter century after the fact.

Both great christmas movies, I'm gonna have to go Home Alone tho'.

Love em' both but love Home Alone more.
