The Boy vs. Saw

The first Saw movie is an interesting film with potential. The try-to-be twisted ethic storytelling, while having a mediocre execution, feels exciting and vaguely challenging. Saw could have been a fun cult horror movie but turned into one of the hugest franchises in horror history. Perhaps it deserves it, but not through its quality as a film. The Boy is a fairly unique horror movie. It's not incredible, but it is fun. The Boy's use of it's antagonist is enjoyable. I like the way the spirit works through the puppet and the lead's reaction to the haunting feels real and different. The two main problems I find with the film are a forced romance, and a lack of explanation in the ending. Overall, I think Saw may just have more character.
