Nashville vs. Boogie Nights

Robert Altman's influence on Paul Thomas Anderson is rather apparent but, frankly, Anderson is the better storyteller. Boogie Nights crushes Nashville...

Not even close. Nashville weaves a half dozen or more storylines into a coherent albeit untidy whole; Boogie Nights is a superficial story of a man's descent into a self-made hell. Boogie Nights is a very good film, but Nashville is an American classic. The comparison might be best seen in the two endings: Nashville is a soaring celebration of the human spirit rising about the pettiness and nastiness, while Boogie Nights' ending, as iconic as it is, is a punchline to the previous 2 1/2 hours

Well I'll just split the middle and say both are brilliant. But I'll give it to Nashville.

both great, but i prefer nashville
