This is pretty much impossible. Two gritty crime dramas that one Best Picture, one right after the other, each nearly perfect films. What do you do?!

a heart wrencher!

I have to go with No Country for Old Men here. Was a bit edgier.

this is just cruel.

Departed wins for me. Tough call...

Scorsese. DiCaprio. Wahlberg. 'Nuff said.

Two superbly directed Best Picture winners. Intense and brutal, they never fail to entertain me. No Country by the closest of close margins.

Not that close for me. NCFOM gets the win.

No Country for Old Men. Departed comes close.

No Country feels a little bit too "clean" if you get my drift, but it's confrontational & thought-provoking and a bunch of other good things The Departed just falls short of (despite having that Scorsese feel in spades).

Chigurh is a ridiculous walking metaphor though, and cheapens the film every-so-slightly. I mean you got subtlety peas on one side of the plate and fucking obviousness gravy on the other side spilling out of the mashed potatoes.
