Very similiar movies. LA Confidential is an obvious homage to Chinatown. I'd take the original.
I love both, but LA Confidential has such lush photography and a grand cast to match it up. I prefer LA Confidential.
L.A. Confidential is great, but Chinatown blows it away completely. Not close at all.

Both are fabulous films with great acting.I can see how L.A. Confidential must've taken inspiration from Chinatown.Overall for me,L.A. Confidential is a more satisfying and thrilling ride than Chinatown.

Chinatown. The pinnacle for movies like these.

Chinatown. Both GREAT movies though. Chinatown is the best Film-Noir of all time.
