Gah! I hate matchups like this. Pirates is nothing without Johnny Depp, really...but it does, in fact, have Johnny Depp. District 9, meanwhile, is phenomenal. I think, when I see it for a second time, I'm going to absolutely fall in love with it, but...for now...I'm going to side with Captain Jack on this one. For now...

As good as District 9 is, the first Pirates movie is even better.

As much as I love District 9, Pirates was nothing short of brilliant.

Pirates is a sloppier movie, plot-wise, but the action and humor of it more than makes up for it's flaws. Watching Depp and Rush doing their thing is better than anything District 9 has to offer (although I liked District 9 a lot).
A good movie all around beats out plain humor. Enough said.

District 9. PotC:tCotBP isn't bad for a film based on a Disneyland ride, but it's no more than a fun romp. District 9 is a whole lot more inventively shot, scripted and directed.
