Chungking is just...not a good movie.
Chungking gets all kind of love in general...but also not from me. Sucker Punch was bad....but it still wins here.
Okay, I gotta show Chungking some love here. I found Sucker Punch surprisingly boring for a movie with so much action, so an easy pick for me.
This may me one of the most depressing discussions I've seen. With a movie that comes as disgusting and vile as Sucker Punch does, a movie that simultaneously exploits while pretending to subvert its subject with the same kind of ugly Snyder-glossed video-game cgi and slow-motion action and boobs and pretty girls, against a dualistic, meditative romantic drama from Wong Kar-wai that actually gives real meaning and context to its characters against their environment and composed with an actual idea of substance and beauty and the former is winning? Wong Kar-wai has more worth in a single shot than Snyder does with the entirety of his doped up boy-man delusional fairy tales.
