Hereafter was a HUGE HUGE letdown. I walked into that movie prepared for it to be my favorite film of the year, and I still think it had an interesting premise that Eastwood completely squandered. It ended up towards the bottom of my year-end list for sure. The Broadway Melody is no masterpiece, but it's solid entertainment with that old-timey charm that is irresistible. There was probably a better film that came out in 1929, but maybe not one as exuberant. It's an easy choice over Hereafter.
