Chinatown wins this "battle of the classics".

Chinatown's a lot more consistent, and arguably more creative too, despite being a genre pic as opposed to MC's envelope-pushing status. Ultimately MC is a story about friendship between outcasts, whereas Chinatown works on any number of levels and is about a lot of things at once.
I'll go Midnight Cowboy. Just resonated with me a bit more than Chinatown...

I prefer the poignant Midnight Cowboy.

Midnight Cowboy is pretty good but I wasn't obsessed with it like so many. Chinatown, on the other hand, is one of the best from 1970s cinema!
