Pocketful of Miracles vs. Lady for a Day

The original is so much better. While Pocketful of Miracles did garner a well deserved Oscar nomination for Peter Falk’s scene-stealing supporting performance, and provides fine parts for veteran character actors like Thomas Mitchell and Edward Everett Horton, Bette Davis just can’t manage to muster the same pathos as May Robson did playing Apple Annie, and both Glenn Ford and especially Hope Lange lack the necessary edge in their roles. At two and a half hours it’s also way too long. An easy win for Lady for a Day.
