My mom told me tonight that you CAN'T compare these two movies. I have to disagree with her. Yes, they're different KINDS of movies -- HTTYD is more serious, more of a growing-up story, even (I'd say) more of an adventure, whereas Despicable Me is more of a slapstick spy satire. But you can compare the quality of the animation and the writing, and there HTTYD easily comes out tops. I think it's one we'll remember a few years from now. Despicable Me? Not so sure.
How To Train Your Dragon was underhyped and actually very good. Despicable Me was completely blown out of proportion and didn't really live up to it's hype. Dreamworks wins here.
