Bah. My two favorites of 2009 so far. Damn near impossible choice.

two of my 3 favorite movies of '09 (the other being District 9), but 'Basterds' is something I could watch over and over.

Both are terrifically done war films, but I think "Basterds" added so much more to the genre than "Locker".

I just don't get the QT love. There's great stuff in Basterds, and I like it more than any previous Tarantino movie I've seen, but The Hurt Locker was better, IMHO.

Really really hard choice. I really enjoyed both movies and could watch them both over and over again!... I guess I'll go with Basterds. It was a more personal film for Tarantino, than Hurt Locker was to Bigelow.
The Hurt Locker was the best movie of 2009.

Basterds, any day of the week.

Btw, I think Basterds should have taken Best Original Screenplay. Hurt Locker was no where as creative, imo.

Sophie's Choice...Locker was very visceral, and more authentic (obviously), but Basterds entertained more, is QT at his best, and both advanced cinema and took it back to its roots.

The Hurt Locker was good but it didn't deserve best picture over Inglourious Basterds. The Basterds wins

Inglourious Basterds focuses more on the story and I like that.
The Hurt Locker was far superior in my opinion. I enjoy QT, but Basterds was not his crowning jewel. The Hurt Locker is a top ten war film of all time...

The best movie of 2009 was Up :D

Close, but probably going to go with The Hurt Locker.

I have gone back and forth on this in the past, but I am at peace with choosing The Hurt Locker...Although I do think Inglourious Basterds should have won Original Screenplay over it.
Hurt Locker by a small margin there both great!
Basterds

The Hurt Locker for me. Inglourious Basterds was enjoyable, but it's far from Tarantino's best.
Inglourious Basterds holds up better after repeat viewings.

I agree with robmoviefilms13, Hurt Locker, while good focused more on set pieces and spectacle and points rather than the tightly wound Basterds that deserved the Oscar.
