Some of my favorite war movies right there. I liked Hurt Locker more, however. It had an intimate sense of claustrophobia I haven't felt before watching a war movie. Wonderfully directed with a great performance by Jeremy Renner.

I think Saving Private Ryan suffers from its length and scope, while The Hurt Locker excels at being a much more intimate, character driven Iraq war film. Overall, The Hurt Locker is a more focused, sleeker war film.
I think I have to choose The Hurt Locker, too, though I might change my mind if I saw Private Ryan again. Still, The Hurt Locker is probably a film I'm more inclined to want to watch again, as it's not nearly as brutal as Ryan. Plus, Jeremy Renner's fantastic. (Regardless, I'm not a huge fan of war movies...)

Yeah, Jeremy Renner was amazing in the film. It says something that I thought Renner should win over Jeff Bridges at the Academy Awards, because Bridges was brilliant, too. The Best Actor category was strong this year, with Clooney, Freeman, and Firth all being excellent as well.

Two amazing war movies. Hurt Locker is dynamite, but it just isn't Private Ryan...

Saving Private Ryan was from another era of cinema (much one better than now)

Great couple we got here! SPR has been king of the war movies for what seems like ages, The Hurt Locker is an excellent movie. I'll give the edge to SPR, but the Hurt Locker is one of those few movies that dare to challenge SPR for it's war-movies throne.

Both great, entertaining movies, but gotta go with SPR
I admire Saving Private Ryan very much, but I found The Hurt Locker to be a more visceral and intense war movie. War is a drug, baby.

I like the hurt locker but I felt it definitely dragged on in some places

Damn, I may have to change my mind on this one. Yeah, The Hurt Locker is more visceral and intense, but Saving Private Ryan has a lot more dramatic power. That's enough to allow it to squeak by with a win in this matchup, I'd say. God, I hope I don't have to change my mind again...

I agree with Caesar. SPR wins, but it's very nice to see love for Hurt Locker here. That too is an outstanding war film.

Two best war films. I think Hurt Locker's better, but they're so close, I can;t blame one for choosing Saving Private Ryan.

HawkEye, Alridge Killian (Iron Man 3 Guy Pierce), and Falcon vs. Groot.
