Two horror movies from this year and last that I didn't really love. I think The Witch had the better plot and of course is technically the better film but for entertainment purposes I think I'll side with Don't Breathe.

Both films build tension so nicely.

Not even remotely close. The Witch is a horror masterpiece. Don't Breathe is solid but ultimately falls apart in the end.

Much like It Follows, both of these are horror films which I watched relatively recently on Netflix, and The Witch's off-kilter, slow-burning, auteur sensibilities give it the win here, along with some really unsettling performances from all involved. Don't Breathe was solid enough, but aside from the obviously disgusting twist I never felt particularly out of my comfort zone watching it.

I have to go with Don't Breathe here. It might not be one that I go back to super often, but when I saw it for the first time, I paid for the entire theater seat, but only ended up using the edge. I know The Witch has some dedicated fans out there, but I'm just not one of them.

I also think The Witch was more enveloping and just better written & acted.
