I agree. Both in my top 20 for sure, but Shawshank number 1.

The Shawshank is in my top 10 while the City of God is just outside my top 50. My answer is obvious here by far. I love both classics though. City of God has to be the best foreign of all time. What I love about it is how it manages to entertain and not be dull even for a film made in Brazil. Still doesn't topple The Redemption.
The Shawshank just. Both are in my top 10.

I'm actually going with City of God. It's both raw and intense and I really haven't seen anything like it.

City of God makes Shawshank look like a Hallmark made-for-TV movie. (An over-exaggeration, but you get my point)
