Ah! This is a fine litmus test... how do you like your Sci-Fi?

on 12/3/2009

I'm freaking out right now...

on 2/26/2010

My brain is going to explode!

on 1/21/2011

Man! I have no freakinĀ“idea! ThatĀ“s a hard one!

on 8/19/2011

This is a very, very close call. These two are among my favorite sci-fi flicks but in truth I have to go with Star Wars. It just mesmerized me on my first viewing, but not saying that 2001 didn't.

on 8/19/2011

Star. Wars. That is all...

on 1/20/2012

No question Star Wars sucks

on 1/20/2012

Defiantly 2001 Because of the meaning behind star wars is pretty good though

on 1/20/2012

Like them both but 2001 is my favorite movie obviously by my username

on 2/14/2012

Gonna go with star Wars.

on 3/30/2012

This is the hardest choice I have had they are at 1 and 3 right now in my list. I think Star Wars wins by a parsec

on 3/30/2012

No question, it's 2001. Lucas could never direct a film as outstanding as 2001: A Space Odyssey.

on 5/29/2012

This is not even a question, 2001 is the far superior film. I actually have this debate with my friends, who are huge Star Wars fans, all the time. In my opinion Star Wars is the most overrated franchise in the history of film. And I love Star Wars, it played a huge part in my childhood, but it has achieved (or at least the original three have) this demi-god status where its an act of heresy if you insult it and I'm getting sick of it.

I love 2001, but I'm giving it to Star Wars here.

on 2/6/2013

This one just kinda scrambled my brain. Going with my classic "what would I show to someone who hasn't seen either one" test, I have to go with Star Wars.

on 2/27/2013

Star Wars was fun... epic even, but 2001: A Space Odyssey was profound and life-changing. 2001 wins everytime in my book.

on 2/27/2013

2001: A Space Odyssey vs. Star Wars, a.k.a. Preference for Art vs. Preference for Entertainment (yeah, I know it isn't that black and white, and you can get entertainment out of art, and you can consider Star Wars art since film in general is an art form, and...just forget it.)

on 2/27/2013

2001: A Space Odyssey. Although both are in my top 50

on 5/9/2013

What....!!!!!! Star wars isn't even close. 2001 is without any doubt the greatest sci-fi movie ever whereas star wars is a cheap kid stuff that looks crappy now.

on 6/2/2013

"2001: A Space Odyssey" hands down. I really like Star Wars, but I was never blown away by the films. 2001 on the other hand blew me away like no other film has before.

on 6/26/2013

2001 by far... One is a Kubrick film, the other is a Lucas.. Nuf said.. By the way, Star Wars IS NOT SCI-FI!!

on 6/26/2013

2001

on 7/11/2013

Star Wars wins by a 2001 miles.

on 7/11/2013

Star Wars for sure.

on 10/10/2013

2001 by far

on 12/11/2013

There would be no Star Wars without 2001. It's Beyond the infinite and beyond Star Wars in my flickchart.

on 12/29/2013

only because of the boringness (but was epic as well) of 2001 and my love towards the star wars universe, will I pick star wars. But really close

on 12/29/2013

i cant pick star wars. 2001: a fucking space odyssey wins

on 12/30/2013

2001. I love both, but 2001 wins easily here.

on 5/24/2014

SS

on 5/24/2014

Easily 2001. The first Star Wars feels like it hasn't really found it's footing, while Kubrick's masterpiece effortlessly brings the genre to heights unseen before or since.

on 5/26/2014

2001 all the way.

on 6/3/2014

Star Wars enough said!

on 6/21/2014

Star Wars!

on 7/23/2014

2001 wins easily. As entertaining as Star Wars is, it is just not at the level of complexity that 2001 is.

on 7/26/2014

I prefer Star Wars, because it is the Ultimate Space Saga and has various Planets, Cultures and Technologies to offer, while Space Odyssey is more of a Psycho film that makes you stunned after 3h of watching with more riddles unsolved than answeres.

on 8/20/2014

2001 attacks over SW.

on 12/30/2014

Star Wars

on 12/30/2014

Sorry HAL

on 6/13/2015

To all the people claiming Star Wars is overrated. Let's be clear, overrated just means you disagree with the general consensus. Star Wars has become a pop culture phenomenon precisely because it struck a cord with a lot of people. But that being said, as a film, Kubrick's masterpiece is far far superior. Star Wars is a thrilling adventure film. 2001 is Kubrick's tribute to god. There is only one winner.

on 6/30/2015

2001.

on 7/23/2015

2001: A Space Odyssey.

on 9/23/2015

I've done a lot of pondering for the past few days over which movies one should rank higher on their Flickchart: the movies that they appreciate more, or the ones that they enjoy more. For a long time now, 2001 has been my #1. However, I got the chance to see it again today on TCM. I was surprised at how slow I found the movie was. I was constantly fast-forwarding through certain parts. I definitely plan on keeping 2001 in my top 10. It's a masterful film with a few slow parts. Though, I don't know if it's quite my #1 anymore. But I think I've decided to rank the more enjoyable movie higher. So, anyway, I think that both 2001 and Star Wars are both great contenders for the #1 slot. But as long as we're picking the movies that we enjoy more, I guess I'll go with Star Wars for now. Though, this could sway either way for me.

on 9/23/2015

Both are awesome, this is not an easy decision, I call it a tie.

on 9/26/2015

Star Wars gets the win

on 12/18/2015

2001 decimates star wars.

on 12/18/2015

2001 sucks.

on 1/31/2016

The battle of Sci Fi classics! 2001 is my pick, but no one really is a loser here.

on 3/21/2016

2001 has a more robust amount of substance. Star Wars while being built into the greek republic vs the empire, it's motivations seek to focus more on the commercial and entertaining factor. 2001 is more of an art film delicately crafted to be the best of the best, 2001 wins.

Both are among the top 50 movies ever made, but while Star Wars is more popular, 2001 has a legitimate claim to being THE best movie ever.

on 9/2/2017

Star Wars. 2001 was a boring and confusing piece of garbage that I felt myself dazing off during the viewing.

on 9/3/2017

Both in my top 10. Star Wars is a great good vs evil story with deep characters. And 2001 is visual storytelling at its absolute best with such deep and incredible themes. I could stay here and type my thoughts for hours but since I can't be bothered, 2001 is the better film! You have to ask; where would space movies be without these two movies? Dead and buried.

on 12/15/2017

Joust of the jews. George Jewcas vs Stanley Jewbrick. Personally, I'd go Star Wars cuz 2001 is a turd.

on 12/17/2017

2001 is in my top 10 right now, don't especially like star wars

on 4/24/2018

The battle between the sci fi flicks my vote goes for 2001...
