Shawshank is my favorite film of all time. Look at my #1.

Two great movies, but I have to go with Deakins and Shawshank.
War of the Worlds was a very interesting movie. Now there are several movies out there about aliens invading earth (Independence Day, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, ET, etc.) but this one was not too great. It was very exiting but the ending was anit-climatic. I loved Shawshank and its great characters and story. I loved how it took place over a long period of time and we got to see how Robbins and Freeman's characters changed throughout the film. I chose Shawshank!

I love Spielberg's War of the Worlds, but I don't think I could choose it over Shawshank.
War of the Worlds, worst ending ever? Regardless it doesn't sniff that masterpiece that is Shawshank....

War of the Worlds, I find very underrated

Shawshank is vastly overrated - it's a good movie and a fine movie, but it's hardly the best ever made - but it wins here against the clumsily plotted War of the Worlds. Who would have thought that wholesale slaughter could be so tedious?
