Rashômon vs. The Seventh Seal

This is a very difficult choice.

yeah, both are great. Buit, i defintely like death in Seventh Seal.

Rashomon got a bad rap in the 50s from Japanese xenophobes who thought any kind of Japanese period movie with slight western influence was just trying to appeal to Americans. It's still often considered fairly minor, but I think it can go toe to toe with something like The Seventh Seal. It has much more clarity of vision, whereas Bergman's theater background gives The Seventh Seal a feeling of episodic tedium at times. Everything to do with Block, Death, and the squire was great--that troupe, on the other hand, not so much.

The Seventh Seal is the better film I'd say.
