Ah, very similar, these two are. Seven Samurai is about 5 samurai, a punk, and a kid coming together to protect a village from bandits. The Mission is about 5 professionals brought together to protect a Triad boss from assassins. Bonds are formed, people die, and asses are kicked. Seven Samurai's got social themes and The Mission has...a wicked synth score. (Okay, so maybe it's not so wicked. Who cares? I still love it!) There's no mistaking that Seven Samurai is a masterpiece. That's as close to fact as opinions can get. But, personally, I'd have to side with The Mission. The "inaction scenes" are a blast to watch, the cast is phenomenal, and the little moments that they share make the whole thing a home run. Kurosawa's movie is fantastic, but I'd pick Johnnie's boys in a heartbeat.
