Oh this is easy The Matrix is definitly the better of the two. Keanu Reeve is such a badass in the movie and the special effects done in it are just mind blowing!!!

Although I might normally side with a futuristic action movie, LOTR is of a higher quality

As a trilogy , there is no comparison and Lord Of The Rings would take the throne easily. As a stand-alone movie, you can't beat The Matrix.
