Two different films from two different eras of film making for Disney, I think that the earlier one has the advantage of being more poignant in its ending. A tough choice, but "The Fox and the Hound" was much stronger for me.

Both these Disney Movies are both strong for different reasons. Fox for being very emotional and Mermaid for having great Songs and great Animation. I think i will go with Mermaid but its really close.
Darn it, flickchart! I love The Fox and the Hound- it's a childhood favorite...but, I regard The Little Mermaid as a minor classic in the late 80's/early 90's Disney Renaissance. I'm sorry F&H, but I have to go with The Little Mermaid here.

Fox and the Hound is one of Disney's most underrated films. It'll make you laugh, it'll make you cry. The Little Mermaid, while perhaps just a wee bit overrated, boasts some of Disney's best songs, some great animation, and Disney's tasteful humor. My choice goes to The Little Mermaid, but only by a hair.
