Stephen King's The Mist vs. The Shining

As much as I liked the Mist, the shock ending was completely implausible to me. In a silly attempt to be edgy, Mr. Darabont threw all reason out the window just to stir up some tepid controversy. FOR SHAME! There's no way a father would have reacted that way after getting so far. I hear the short story has a more open ending, I don't know, I haven't read it. I don't have an answer for what would have made a better ending, but I know THIS one didn't work for me. Then there's The Shining: perfectly executed, maybe one of the most obsessively shot horror movies of all time. There just isn't a frame of celluloid out of place. And the father/son relationship is believable and elegantly paced. But for many years Stephen King hated this movie, and why? Because Stanley Kubrick insulted the source material, calling it "non-literary." OUCH! The Shining WIIIIINNNNNNNSSSS

Dude The Mist had the perfect ending. Plausibility went out the window with the creatures. You know I actually enjoyed the remake that followed the book much closer for the The Shining. Still for me on this match up it is all about The Mist.

I have never seen a horror film that impressed me or made me think the way THE SHINING does. THE MIST is a very nice little flick, tho, and I'm still surprised that Hollywood released a mainstream film with an ending that bleak.

The Mist was a movie that floored me when I saw it in theaters and it was namely the ending that is to thank for that reaction. But, the second time through, it falls a little flat in comparison to that first viewing. The Shining, on the other hand, is an absolute classic that can floor me any day of the week.

The Shining is the enduring classic here. It chills my spine every time I view it. I liked the ending of The Mist because it was unexpected and tragically believable. I give the edge to The Shining but The Mist is a thought provoking chiller.

I really appreciate The Shining, but after seeing The Mist at least 7 times, I could honestly say I enjoy it far more. And it really isn't just the ending.

Shinning is a much more superior movie, but I will agree that the Mists ending was so perfect
