Notorious vs. Vertigo

Notorious has some memorable scenes but, as a whole, it fell kind of flat for me. Vertigo was a minor disappointment, seeing as I only knew Alfred Hitchcock as the man behind two absolutely brilliant films by the names of Rear Window and Psycho. Brilliant, Vertigo was not. It has a tendency to meander a little; however, its ending wraps things up beautifully and redeems the film quite wonderfully. With Notorious, things never came together like that.

I've always felt that these were both very personal films for Hitchcock, dealing with one of his favorite themes: obsession. Both are also among the director's most beautifully photographed movies. Vertigo will be the natural choice for most people, but Notorious is my favorite.
