Up vs. The Brood

Obviously Up is a much better film than The Brood, which I consider to be one of Cronenberg's worst in terms of scare and storytelling. But let's not focus on technical craft, more on theme to determine which film has more to say. Female asexuality fantasies and postpartem depression are the major themes of David Cronenberg's The Brood. Up is a whimsical look at age, with a keen focus on loss and regret, truth and redemption. One film has a very specialized theme and another is more broad in scope. I prefer the ones more broad in scope because they just feel more epic and universal. Up in time will be considered a classic in animation like Bambi was 60 years ago. The Brood? Well, it won't be in my horror top one hundred I'll tell you that. So that ranks it pretty low when you consider all genres. Up WINNNSSSSSSSSS

Talk about two completely movies. Although, eh, I suppose both have children in them. Maybe these two aren't that different after all...
